Client's brief pointed us into deliberately juxtaposing new, clean edge, modern interpretation with neighbouring post-war housing stock.
From the outset we were inspired to create a single storey form, at least for the street front outlook, to better connect with the single storey dominance in the street.
The aluminium panels chosen to one side of the home create stark contrast with front garden landscape, whilst the timber clad garage door was to soften the driveway.
The design was to highlight the transitional space from the generous entry proportions through to the main living spaces. The intention of the double height volume space midway through the building was to allow direct Northern sun deep into living spaces. Theses differing ceiling heights work to create a journey through these spaces for the eye to appreciate the volume and ambience.
