Black Rock House
Located on a narrow allotment, closely bordered by a three-story residence and a terrace at its side and rear, the Black Rock House makes clever use of zones to fulfil the living needs of the owners while still achieving privacy. Created for a growing family, the home is deliberately set back slightly from the street behind a tall fence, creating a practical and usable open space at the front of the residence.
Playing with the horizontal and vertical form, the house spatially responds to the client's brief requiring light filled spaces. This was achieved with the addition of an outdoor room which opens up to the lap pool at the rear.
We were interested in creating cool and fresh spaces that encompass a sense of exploration as you move through the various spaces. Upstairs where the views overlook Port Phillip Bay, the main living area opens on to a large terrace, instantly connecting you with the ocean.
